Comparative analysis of consumer baskets

1 year, 1 month ago
Purchases of each client in shop only at first sight seem unique. At buyers identical behavior models on the basis of requirements, for example, purchase of milk and bread every other day, packs of cigarettes every evening, chocolates to tea, yogurt and croissant by a lunch, etc. are developed. And as, anyway, needs of people match, we can speak about typical consumer behavior in certain conditions.

The analysis of consumer baskets assumes studying of communications and patterns in behavior of clients of a distribution network. Results of the analysis help to create target marketing activity, to create the personalized sentences and to plan promo for increase in the average check and profit.

We already described the analysis of consumer baskets here, and in this article, we will consider comparison of typical baskets and the possibility of use of results in business processes of a retail. The possibility of visualization and comparison of baskets with similar goods helps the retailer to select quickly patterns in consumer behavior and to make the necessary decisions for optimization of the activity.

The calculated knowledge of anatomy in Wolfram Language

1 year, 1 month ago

Transfer of a post of Keiko Hirayama "Dissecting the New Anatomy Content in the Wolfram Language".

The code given in article can be downloaded here.

I express huge gratitude to Kirill Guzenko of KirillGuzenko for the help in transfer and preparation of the publication

The body of the person is a studying subject from the very beginning of human history. The modern scientific directions in anatomy and physiology come from symbiosis of the art and anatomy which arose during a Renaissance era. At the beginning of the 16th century Leonardo da Vinci submitted to one of the first rather detailed and exact sketches of a human body and its structures. In 1543 Vezaly published the well-known textbook De Humani Corporis Fabrica (About a structure of a human body) with beautiful illustrations of it.

Having modern technologies at our disposal, we can submit data on physiology and anatomy in a computable format. By means of Wolfram|Alpha we created for all an opportunity to easily study how separate anatomical structures are connected with each other in a human body, and also to investigate both the whole systems of bodies, and their microscopic components.

Forgotten on Mars: we investigate Mark Uotni's travel from the movie the Martian

1 year, 1 month ago

Transfer of a post of Jeffrey Bryant "Stranded on Mars: Exploring Travel on Mars in The Martian".
The code given in article can be downloaded here.
I express huge gratitude to Kirill Guzenko of KirillGuzenko for the help in transfer and preparation of the publication

Not so long ago according to the popular book The Martian Andy Weir's (Martian) the movie which was released on the second of October was shot. The Martian — the movie about the astronaut Mark Uotni left alone on Mars. Ares's crew of the 3, third piloted flight to Mars, considered that he died during evacuation. The crew during flying away took with itself only fixed assets for rescue and communication. The following piloted weeds to Mars had to take place in four years therefore Uotni had to or think up to himself the plan for a survival during this term, or reconcile and die. Different technical details about conditions and available means, and also about problems which result from use of different things not on their direct assignment are perfectly presented in the book. And these parts give us the excellent chance to investigate adventures of the main character together with Wolfram language.

I think, now that moment when it is necessary to write: CAREFULLY, SPOILERS! From this point in article different aspects of the subject line, its moments and turns will appear and be investigated. And if you do not like to learn some parts of a plot now, then I would recommend to read at first the book, and then to return and read article.

Price elasticity in a retail

1 year, 2 months ago
In the economic theory many sections are devoted to process of pricing in trade.

But at practical use of tools of pricing retailers face a set of problems, it leads to errors at determination of the price and, as a result, to losses in profit.

For example, when the retailer reduces the price, the consumer demand grows, but there is no profit. Increases the goods price — demand falls.

As we see, there is a strong dependence between the price, demand and profit.

Elasticity allows to find the optimum ratio of cost and the number of sales allowing to increase profit. In other words, the price acts as the balancing factor between the expected demand and the income.

Big data as art art

1 year, 2 months ago
The The Art Of Analytics project from the Teradata company looks rather unusually. Idea of the project — to explain researches on the basis of big data in the form of artistic images of wide audience. You want to learn as detection of fraud in banks and terrorist threats or comparison of one-malt whisky looks? Under a cat some of 20 researches represented in the form of pictures.

Research of results of USE, SFE and the Olympic Games for the Moscow schools. From what schools to what HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS come

1 year, 2 months ago
A month ago I wrote about our participation in a hackathon according to open data.

After a hackathon we were not satisfied with what has already been achieved as it usually happens, and continued work. We on hands had data to which, probably, only the staff of the Ministry of Education had access earlier: results of SFE and a victory at the Olympic Games for 2014-2015 for 90% of the Moscow schools. For 55% of schools it was succeeded to collect data on USE for 2015. Pumped over all accounts of the Moscow school students in Contact, looked what HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS they specify at themselves in profiles after the termination.

Naturally, it was interesting to study such datast. At first trivial things about which people from education, probably, well know:
  • Points on USE in humanitarian objects are higher, than on technical. History — an exception;
  • Natural-science disciplines in the middle.

The analysis of consumer baskets in a retail

1 year, 2 months ago
Task No. 1 for the retailer — to understand who specifically makes purchases in shop, to study behavior of buyers, to select typical models, and by means of this knowledge to influence quantity and quality of purchases.

The solution is possible, using such approaches:
  • data analysis from programs of loyalty and other forms of studying of persons and behavior of buyers;
  • data analysis about purchases and transactions.

Paraphrasing the second approach — what goods the buyer put in the basket?

How to find the most long continuous line of events by means of SQL

1 year, 2 months ago
The problem of search of continuous sequences of events is quite easily solved with the help of SQL. Let's specify that these sequences are.

For an example we will take Stack Overflow. He uses cool system of reputation with awards for certain achievements. As well as in many social projects, they encourage users daily to visit a resource. Let's pay attention to these two awards:

It is easy to understand what they mean. Visit the website in the first day. Then for the second day. Then on the third (perhaps several times, it does not matter). Did not come on the fourth? We begin to consider again.

In the first part:
  • visualization of networks: what for? how?
  • visualization parameters
  • best practices — an esthetics and performance
  • formats of data and preparation
  • the description of data sets which are used in examples
  • beginning of work with igraph

In the second part: colors and fonts in diagrams R.

In the third part: parameters of graphs, tops and edges.

In the fourth part: placements of a network.

In the fifth part: emphasis of properties of a network, tops, edges, ways.

In the sixth part: interactive visualization of networks, other methods of representation of a network.

In this part: the animated visualization of networks, evolution of a network in time.

Practical application of Fourier transform for the analysis of signals. Introduction for beginners

1 year, 2 months ago

1. Fourier transform and range of a signal

In many cases the problem of obtaining (calculation) of a range of a signal looks as follows. There is ATsP which with a sampling rate of Fd will transform the continuous signal arriving on its input during T time to digitized samples — N pieces. Further the array of counting moves in a certain applet which issues N/2 of some numerical values (the programmer who dragged away from the Internet wrote an applet, assures that it does Fourier transform).

To check whether the program correctly works, we will create an array of counting as the sum of two sinusoids of sin(10*2*pi*x) +0,5*sin(5*2*pi*x) and we will palm off on an applet. The program drew the following:

fig. 1 Diagram of temporary function of a signal

fig. 2 Diagram of a Range of a Signal

On the diagram of a range there are two sticks (harmonics) of 5 Hz with an amplitude of 0.5 V and 10 Hz — with an amplitude of 1 V, all as in a formula of an original signal. Everything is excellent, the programmer well done! the Program works correctly.

It means that if we give on ATsP input a real signal from mix of two sinusoids, then we will receive the similar range consisting of two harmonics.

Total, our real measured signal, the lasting 5 sec., digitized ATsP that is provided by discrete counting has a discrete non-periodic range.
From the mathematical point of view — how many errors in this phrase?

Now the administration solved we decided that 5 seconds are too long, let's measure a signal for 0.5 sec.
